annihilation / sueños y fantasmas expresses the mentality and feelings of having depersonalization disorder; a disorder that leaves one feeling as if the reality their are experiencing is not real and to question their own self leading to anxiety and paranoia. Not only do the lyrics and overall sound of the track try to encapsulate that disorder, the disorder is also a metaphor for the identity crises many bi-racial people have in America. A struggle to truly fit in, the confusion of self, and the regret of possibly having tried to kill the minority identity in order to better be accepted by the ruling culture only to then mourn for that part of yourself and your family. This track is about the nightmare of duality between reality and the unconscious as well as the duality of bi-racial identity.
